Project Description
Our enthusiasm and support for Misenga School was initiated by the unexpected and determined approach that members of the team received from Angela Zuze Nduba on a visit to Zambia in 2012. Angela, finance trained and a former school inspector, invited us to visit the school she had established for a group of children she found sheltering under a mango tree - now Misenga Primary School. We were captivated by her energy and her ability to get things done.
Working with the local community, and with support from Wilmslow Wells for Africa, we costed, financed, and enabled the installation of a new well – a small step that led to big changes for the school and its students.
Having a water supply and new sanitary arrangements meant that twice as many children could receive education. The school now has three functioning classrooms for 600 pupils. They are very overcrowded. Three further classrooms, built with community support, await the addition of a roof before they can become operational. MAC is funding this final construction stage through donations from our supporters.
Foundations for three further classrooms have also been laid by the local community and they now await completion. We hope to be able to help here too.
Update: the classrooms are now complete and school numbers have doubled. For more details see 'Misenga Roof Project'.
