Project Description
Funsani Kids 4 Kids is a home for orphaned children housed in a brick built bungalow with a neat, well-kept garden and a hen house at the rear. It is located in a quiet residential suburb of Kitwe. MAC members David Ward, Richard Strittmatter and David Evans visited in April 2012, when they met the manager Chema, one of the mother figures Grace, and some of the children. One of Chema and Grace's older children, Natachi, gave a guided tour of the shared bedrooms and communal living and dining rooms, which provide a comfortable home for a dozen children.
Shortage of money is a perennial problem for Funsani. MAC decided to provide funding to kick start a chicken rearing project. Using the chicken coup at the rear of the bungalow chicks were purchased and once suitably grown they were sold at market, providing much needed funds to support the running of the orphanage. Some hens were kept back to grow the brood and provide eggs for the children.
