Our enthusiasm and support for Misenga School was initiated by the determined approach we received from Angela Zuze Nduba on our last visit to Zambia. Angela, finance trained and previously a school inspector, invited us to visit the school where she is now Head Teacher. She had established the school for a group of children she had found sheltering under a mango tree. We were captivated by her energy and her ability to get things done.
Working with the local community and with support from Wilmslow Wells for Africa, we obtained quotations, financed, and enabled the installation of a new well – a small step that has led to big changes for the school and, of course, the students.
The water supply and new sanitary arrangements mean that twice as many children are now receiving education and the well provides water to irrigate crops grown by the children, giving nourishment for their bodies as well as their minds. In April 2016 there was a role call of 628 children and 21 teaching staff.
Recently, foundations for three further classrooms were completed with community support, to expand the school in order to accommodate additional students.
MAC is now working with Angela to establish priority areas where we can provide additional support.
